Side Pools > Survivor
There are 2 Survivor Pools available and they can be run concurrently, indepent of each other. They both can have different options set, run one as a Loser Pool, or a differnt # of "losing" game elimination, against the spreads or not, different graphics etc. etc. etc. Now back to your regulary scheduled program ;)
Also known as the King of the Hill, Last Man Standing and the Suicide Pool. The Survivor Pool is an easy, fun pool to administer. Please read the Issues section, and maybe include portions of the Winning Strategies section in your website for your players.
The premise of the pool is simple: A pool member picks only one team each week. If they win, they move on to the next week. Once a member picks a team, they cannot pick that team again. The pool continues until only one member is left.
There are options available so you can customize the pool to your preferences.
Survivor Pool members must first be entered into the main pool, although they don't have to play in the main pool. They won't show or interfere with the main pool standings.
Before the weekly NFL games are ready to be played, you can check what players have not made picks yet, or if any player has used a team more than once. These checks are found in the Survivor Picks screen.
Winning Strategies
Almost all Survivor pools are run "straight-up", which means a player's team does not have to beat the point spread, it only needs to win outright. Sound too good to be true? It is.
The NFL Pool Manager comes with many years of previous NFL Stats. And the screen you want to study is found in menu item NFL Displays->NFL Fun->Any Given Day. This shows how many upsets there were every week above any given point spread. Before making your weekly Survivor pick, look at the point spread for that game, and take note of the odds that your team could lose. As an example, look at 1997, Week 1. SIX Favorites of 3 points or more lost!! And it didn't get much better in week 2 as FIVE more Favorites got cooked.
The beginning of any NFL season is the hardest to handicap. My suggestion is go with the heavy favorites for the first three weeks, especially if they are playing at home. Then about week 4, start looking ahead at the NFL schedule, and plan which teams you want to use for each week. I emphasize plan, because you don't want to find that in a particular week there are no "easy" games on the schedule with the teams you haven't used yet. Unlike the Sports Box or Digit Pool, which for the most part involve little of no skill, the knowledgeable NFL fan has an advantage in the Survivor Pool.
